Michael E. Smith serves as President & Managing Partner of Pine Place Development, LLC. Mr. Smith is a product of Tulsa Public Schools, having attended Dunbar and Bunche Elementary, Anderson and Gilcrease Junior High, and Booker T. Washington Senior High School as a member of the Class of 1975 before attending Oklahoma State University, where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Petroleum Engineering. A thirty-four year employee of Marathon Oil Company, Mr. Smith held various technical and managerial positions within the company, both domestic and international, culminating with a 7 ½ year stint as the Manager of Corporate Facilities Planning, Real Estate, and Leasing. In this role, Mr. Smith was responsible for all facets of operations for Marathon’s corporate office, a 1,070,000 sq. ft. facility in Houston, Texas. Mr. Smith was also responsible for real property acquisitions / dispositions, leasing, and construction management. Mr. Smith had oversight of all negotiations, design, and construction activities for several international projects in Kiev, Ukraine, Warsaw, Poland, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea, as well as domestic field office construction in Oklahoma, Louisiana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Texas. Mr. Smith retired from Marathon oil Company in July, 2013. Prior to his role in facilities planning, for 3 ½ years he held the position of Corporate Supplier Diversity Manager; in this position, Michael was charged with the identification, engagement and subsequent delivery of contract opportunities for minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBE) and historically underutilized business (HUB) enterprises. Through his direct efforts, Marathon’s average year-over-year spend with MWBE’s increased to over $150 million, a $90 million per year improvement over the company’s previous efforts.
